Swimming/Sea

Swimming

There are four pools within easy reach. The huge pools in Acqui Terme are apparently the largest in Europe. Even at the peak of the summer, when they attract all the local people, because of their size, they are still relatively uncrowded. There are smaller pools in the nearby villages of Cassine (just outside the village on the road up to Alice Bel Colle) and Rivalta Bormida. Note that they close early for the winter, usually at the end of the first week of September. The nearest pools which we prefer (a complex of four, plus tennis courts) are in the next village, Tresobbio, less than five minutes’ drive. You can buy a batch of 15 tickets at a discounted price of 80 euros that allows entry to all family or group members.

A day at the sea-side

You can reach the Mediterranean in an hour’s drive (55km) via Ovada and the motorway down to Genoa, where you go right in the direction of Ventimiglia. One of the nicest resorts is Arenzano (lunch at Lido di Arenzano, right by the sea, is a delight.) Alternatively, you can go past Genoa on towards Portofino. For example, it takes about half an hour to get to Rapallo from Genoa (follow autostrada signs to Livorno). ‘Il Castello Enoteca’ is a quiet place for lunch, right by the sea with lovely views.
