Shopping

In terms of food and groceries etc, you can find all the basics in the village shop just 200 yards walk. Otherwise. everything you want in the Gonad supermarket in Cassine or plenty of supermarkets and artisan shops in Acqui Terme, as well as the covered market in Piazza Orto San Pedro (open daily) or in the large supermarket “Bennet” on the road out of Acqui Terme towards Savona.

There is a general market twice a week (Tuesday and Friday mornings) throughout the streets of  Acqui's historic centre, which includes an excellent food market in the square near the covered market. And another market in Ovada on Wednesdays.

Antiques Markets

There is an antique street market every 4th Sunday of the month in Acqui Terme in the Corso Bagni from 09.00 to 19.00.

Antique markets also take place in nearby towns: on the first Sunday of each month in the streets of the historic centre of Alessandria, and the second Saturday and Sunday of each month in Casale Monferrato, and the third Sunday of each month in Nizza Monferrato.

We like to combine our visit to the markets with a stop-over for lunch. In Alessandria there’s an excellent Slow Food restaurant: “Cappelverde” at 26, Via San Pio V.

In Nizza, there’s “Le Due Lanterne” - in the same square as the antiques market; and a cheap and cheerful trattoria much frequented by the locals called “El Pasatemp”, a bit tricky to find just off the Piazza Principe Umberto 1.

The market in Casale Monferrato is a big one and we think it’s the best, and worth the hour’s drive to get there, especially if you take in lunch at the Ristorante Pizzeria Santa Lucia at 25 Via Andrea Trevisi, a street that leads off the big square (where you park for the Antique Fair) between the Albergo Milano and the large church. Great value.
